Card and signature are both in near-mint condition.
Clay, a Democrat, represented Missouri's 1st Congressional District for16 terms from 1968 to 2001 when he retired.
The back of the card is stamped NOV 1973, the date the autograph was obtained.
This 3x5 comes from a massive political autograph collection assembled in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. It contains both the well known and the seemingly unknown. From governors Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan to Supreme Court justices; from Margaret Chase Smith and Shirley Chisholm to Tip O’Neill and Sam Ervin. The collection has been authenticated by a letter from James Spence (see right), whose expertise in the field of autographs is unsurpassed. A copy of this letter will be provided to the buyer upon request.
