This is a balsa wood kit of a World War II Victory Ship. Many of these ships were built near the end of World War II and served the nation well. The model is of the SS Lane Victory which has been completely restored and fully operational in San Pedro, California. The model is 14.2 inches long when completed. The kit contains drawings, bill of material, construction notes, painting guide, and names to glue onto the model. Sheets of balsa wood are laser cut for ease of assembly to the "lift" or "bread and butter" method of construction. The construction is hand made and consists of removing images from the laser cut balsa wood sheets. The images are the "lifts" that form the hull and cabins when stacked together to form the pieces. Cutting, trimming and sandpapering are necessary to prepare the pieces for painting. The laser cut pieces and the "lift" method of construction make this model easy to build for young and old model builders. The drawings are designed for a scratch built model, i.e., no manufactured parts. Glue and paint are not included. |
