This is a model kit of the Lightship "Columbia". This lightship was commissioned in the Coast Guard in 1951 and served off the coast of Oregon for many years. The "Columbia is owned by the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, Oregon, and has been completely restored and open to visitors. The kit is made in the USA by JAC Models. Balsa wood sheets are laser cut with the images to build the model. The "bread and butter" or "lift" method of construction is used to build the model.The pieces are stacked together to form the hull and cabins.Triming and sandpapering are necessary to prepare the hull, cabin and pieces for painting. When complete, the model is 10'' long with a beam of 2.25''.The scale is 5/64" = 1' (Ratio: 1: 153). The kit includes a photo of the model, a bill of material, construction notes, painting guide,and a brief article about the "Columbia". Glue and paint are not included. |
