ABOUT MY GRADING
Because I am also a collector, I grade much more strictly than most ebay sellers. We've all bought "excellent" condition discs that turn out to be scratched beyond recognition. I would not do that to my customers.
MINT: As new. MINT-: A few light, teeny tiny marks visible at close inspection that prevent disc from being called "MINT". NM: Near Mint. A few small light marks, but still a super disc, very clean and highly collectable. EXC: Excellent. Some small light marks/wear and possibly a *small* and *light* scuff or two. Still quite nice, and a collectable quality disc. VG+. Very Good Plus. A listening copy that plays flawlessly, but has typical "used CD" marks/wear/scuffs. My "VG+" is far better than most ebay sellers' "excellent".

| | Album notes | This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other. Personnel: Carly Simon (vocals); Vincent D'Onofrio (guitar); Shalini Vijayan, Sam Formicola, Sam Fischer, Alyssa J. Park (violin); Danny Seidenberg (viola); Victor Lawrence (cello); Doug Webb (flute, clarinet, saxophone); Tom Evans (saxophone); Lee Thornburg (trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone); Larry Lunetta (trumpet); Mike Thompson (piano, Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizer); Jim Cox (piano); Alex Navarro (string synthesizer); Chris Golden (bass instrument); John Ferraro (drums); Sammy Merendino (percussion, programming). Additional personnel: Andy Chukerman (string synthesizer). Recording information: Fox Force Five, Hollywood, CA; The Cutting Room, New York, NY; Westlake, Los Angeles, California. Since 1981's TORCH, Carly Simon has recorded three more collections of pre-rock standards. 2005's MOONLIGHT SERENADE is the best of the lot, and one of the best albums of standards yet recorded by a singer of Simon's generation. It beats the pants off of similar sets by Linda Ronstadt and Rod Stewart, for example. For one thing, Simon is simply a great singer, even at this late stage in her career; she's taken care of her instrument, and her tone throughout MOONLIGHT SERENADE is superb, as is her increasingly jazzy and unconventional phrasing. (Listen to her subtle but effective vibrato on "All The Things You Are," for starters.) More importantly, Simon chooses songs to suit her voice, not her audience's expectations, which means that along withsuch familiar tunes as "I Only Have Eyes For You," listeners are treated to readings of relative obscurities like "My One and Only Love" instead of the umpteenth rendition of "Stardust."
| | Editorial reviews | 3 stars out of 5 - Once more it's the open-top bus ride down memory lane for those who recall the songwriting joys of Gershwin, Kern, Cole Porter, etc....The songs, of course, are impeccable. Mojo
