Rare "Sticker" or "Decal" - designed to stick to windshield or rear other window of a tourist's automobile
CANON CITY, COLORADO
WE HAVE CROSSED THE HIGHEST BRIDGE IN THE WORLD OVER THE ROYAL GORGE
Distributed free by GRANDE COURTS "America's Finest Tourist Quarters" ... when the motorist moistened this decal and affixed it to the interior of the windshield, an advertisement for Grande Courts in San Antonio and Corpus Christi was displayed to the occupants of the auto.
Specialized American form of advertising. Given away "free" to tourists in the 1920s and 1930s. Almost all of these decals were soiled or damaged by being "used" by the tourists.
Since these advertising decals were in use for a relatively brief period, good examples are probably destined to become rarities and to gain value among collectors of American advertising and tourist memorabilia.
The decal offered in this listing is in very good plus condition for a piece of what was essentially intended to be a piece of temporary advertising material. Diameter of this eyecatching item is approximately 5 inches. Has only minor signs of age. Exhibits well.
I have retired after 44 years of full-time employment and part-time but steady collecting of items with historical and novelty interest. Now I am fulfilling a promise to my wife and daughter to begin selling quite a few items from the approximately 300,000 collectibles I have accumulated over many years. There will be several hundred exonumia, "company store," and other retail store and advertising and safety items. I am beginning to offer these, one at a time or a few at a time, on eBay as I find time to do the listings. Some in eBay auctions, others in my eBay store.
