We are in Birmingham, Alabama during the late 1950's to early 1960's. We are looking at the "new south", the south rich in natural resources and the ability to take those resources to market. This is evidenced in the major SLOSS Steel Works in the background. Birmingham being the "Pittsburgh of the south" is reflected as a modern city. You can see the skyline in the background with basically the modern steel mills in the middle foreground. In fact, you can see the steel being poured as two executives talk to each other pointing at how wonderful and magnificent the steel works are. The two trains race each other; one is the Flamingo on the Central Georgia, the other is the Pelican on the Southern. These two mainlines parallel each other, and still do to this day, for about five to six miles east out of Birmingham. According to the schedule these trains did parallel and race each other out of Birmingham.
