The Mumuye have been discovered in the mid 1960s. The information on Mumuye art is scarce. Little is known about their art and its context. Figures in a distinctive elongated and stylized form, with almost abstract heads and emphasized coiffures, are said to have been used in divination and as guardian figures within the villages.
