Museum Persian BA Short Sword .

Museum Persian BA Short Sword...15+ Inches in Length. 1.25" at its widest.
This is among the first examples of using a short sword in conjuction with a long sword, which became famously deadly during the Medieval era
It has two basic functions. One was to help parry your opponent's longer sword as needed...typically 20" inches and longer in length...and secondly to try to get under the long sword to stab at the enemy soldier... preferable where he was vulnerable. In the Medieval era it was often called a kidney dagger and for obvious reasons
This is a marvelous example for a collection or display with only one chip worth mentioning and visable in the pictures.
The robust handle was once inlaid with an organic material such as wood or ivory & may have been covered with some cloth to help insure the warrior was able to maintain his grip in the hot climate...this gave added meaning to "losing one's grip." The "flange" on the handle was designed to hold the organic material in place.
A museum piece for the discerning collector or as a one off display piece.
