Note: These are the lines of text in the slides. Pre-Columbian Chancay Textile AD 1000-1400 This is a rare museum quality Pre-Columbian Chancay textile fragment, AD 1100-1400, from the central coast of Peru. The design in this example is almost identical to the one found in the collections of Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, Simon Fraser University located in Burnaby, British Colombia. Pre-Columbian Chancay Textile AD 1000-1400 The remarkable resemblance of the designs of this piece to that of the on in the museum, confirms its origin to be from the Peruvian coastal culture of the Chancay region. The outer edges are stressed, have missing elements. The fragment is mounted on a grayish muslin cloth and is ready for framing. Fragment Size: 7 3/4” x 5 1/4" (197 x 134 mm) Muslin size: 8" x 10" (223 x 254 mm) Pre-Columbian Chancay Textile AD 1000-1400 The repeating gold pattern (on the right) appears to have a stylized animal form with an open mouth. Other geometric designs (on the left) have positive and negative forms. Pre-Columbian Chancay Textile AD 1000-1400 The camelid wool is most likely to be alpaca and is all richly vegetable dyed. The wool has retained much of its luster and the vibrancy of the colors. Pre-Columbian Chancay Textile AD 1000-1400
