     The Mutron III automatic Wah Pedal was originally produced by the Musitronics Company. It is an Envelope Follower automatic Wah sound effects device. The input signal is detected and converted into the control signal used to modify the cutoff of the filter section of the device. Setting the feedback control can cause a sharp peak in the filters frequency response at its cutoff frequency, and with the input level sweeping the filter cutoff, the Wah sound is produced. When used with an electric guitar, the touch can be quite expressive.

     Mutron's first production units used internal 9Volt transistor radio batteries. It also had a DC Power jack. There was an optional plug in power supply that could be purchased separately.  

     Our refurbish kit brings new life to the old units. Over time, electronic components change their values. Some stop working all together. The filter components must be carefully matched for optimum performance. Our kit supplies hand matched parts for the ultimate filter depth. The other parts restore the tone and fatness that has weakened over time. The sweep timing will also be restored.

     The stock circuit always processed the input signal, as the “Bypass Mode” was not really bypassed the unit completely. The sound always went through the input buffer, and therefore changed the sound. We also include in our kit a “True Hardwire Bypass switch.” This feature eliminates the tone change when the unit is “Switched Out”

In addition, offers the option to add a status LED.

     At some point, the ARP Company began selling the Mutron III.

They made a few changes to the design. The major change was to make it plug into the AC directly. Now there was no more need for the external power supply.

Our ARP version kit includes new Filter Capacitors for the power supply.

     Even though ARP added the status LED, they did not change to the “Hard Wire Bypass” mode. These kit instructions include the re-wire diagram.
