You are bidding on a section of my former N scale layout the "Thunder Creek and Seaboard Air Line Railroad." I have decided to get out of model railroading and I am selling everything. This is just one of many listings that I have already listed with more to come. It consists of a railroad yard with a mechanized turntable and multiple track sidings and blocks with remote controlled switches. This section weighs about 26 lbs and is 51 inches long, maximum height of 6 inches high at the back end of the module, 19 1/2 inches wide on the left side of the module and 17 inches wide on the right side of the module. This module was really the front section of my layout--it is built on 5/8" plywood and 1" lumber support. The pictures shows a 2-stall Walthers engine house which is NOT included--it was sold in another listing. I have framed up all around the module for shipment. The two side boards and the unpainted board in the back can be removed easily as they are just screwed in. All of the track is Atlas --the track and ties are painted brown. Here is what you get:
- A working motorized Atlas turntable with a scratch-built concrete-like apron and supporting retaining wall. The turntable motor shack has been turned into a Maintenance of Way (MOW) shed with speeder and work car. The shed has several added accessories: welding tanks and dolly, tool rack, window, A/C unit, roof stack. The surface of the turntable and the entire module has been finely detailed and weathered to look like the real thing.
- An old-fashioned water tank--the spout has been removed and the tank is now used for water storage.
- A spotlight tower that I have cut down and modified so it would not look like a toy, but more like the real thing.
- Three light posts which surround the turntable and can be wired for power.
- An old N & W wooden caboose that is lighted and serves as a work crew lunch/break area.
- A stack of rails and a rack of freight car wheels.
- An Atlas signal tower that has been weathered. It is missing a gutter and downspout on the side you cannot see and a piece of tiling on the back porch area. You really cannot notice these two items missing, but I thought I should mention them.
- The light tower, caboose and signal house are not attached to the layout.
- There are nine remote control switches with Atlas switch controls. I also included two additional switch machines--one left and one right--in case any of the ones in place do not function properly.
- There are 13 separate blocks that are all wired in with plenty of wire under the layout. I have included four terminal blocks and a flat piece of light plywood that used to be part of a drawer unit under the layout. It has one Atlas controller for the turntable, four Atlas selectors for the blocks, 10 switch controls, plus I have included a lot of extra wire.
- There is a really neat looking concrete retaining wall that surrounds the yard area. This was all scratch-built using Amaco scultamold and Hydrocal in a homemade mold that I built. Metal drainpipes were added to each section to add detail.
- There is a wooden retaining wall on a slope as you exit right from the yard.
- The two tracks nearest the front of the layout, the two tracks leaving the yard on the far right and the track running on top of the retaining wall are where you could hook into an existing layout. I had to remove several inches of track when I cut out this module from the layout. What you see are the ties left in the ballast on the very ends. You should be able to remove the old ballast that has no track and connect to a layout or your might want to keep the module as is with a few refinements.
- I have included two different types of ballast that match the mix that I used on the yard tracks and the main line tracks.
- A custom painted Bachmann Crane Car and Boom Tender--both are painted beige, weathered and identified with a decal of TCRR (Thunder Creek RR) , MOW identification and road numbers. I replaced the rapido couplers with prototypical looking couplers that are more for looks than operation. Also, TCRR can stand for any number of names as Thunder Creek does not appear anywhere on the cars or the two engines in item 16.
- An Atlas ALCO switcher and an Atlas shovel nose FM "C" locomotive (made in Italy), both repainted in beige and black and showing TCRR road numbers Both have rapido couplers and run fair for their age.
The buyer will be billed the actual freight cost---the completed package will probably weigh about 33 lbs and is probably going to be about 54" x 22" x 8". I will not accept a return on this module, I believe I have accurately described it here. If you cannot accept these terms, please do not bid on this listing. Thanks for looking and reading this description. |
