NAMPA IDAHO SUGAR BEET FACTORY antique cup w/ FALK MERC

A beautiful old china cup and saucer from NAMPA, IDAHO. The scene on the cup features the big old brick Sugar Beet Factory.  On the bottom of the cup is advertising for the Falk Mercantile Co.

• Cup reads:  "Sugar Beet Factory Nampa Idaho".
• Maker's mark on bottom of cup:  "Manufactured in Germany / expressly for / Falk Mercantile Co. / Nampa, Idaho."
• Condition:   This cup is in very nice condition, cup has a shallow flake on the rim-very minor-and just a few wear marks but no cracks or significant chips.  Saucer too is in great condition with just a little typical wear to the gold gilt edge.
• Age:  An antique cup and saucer, ca. early 1900's.

NAMPA IDAHO has a long history in the Sugar Beet industry.  The image on this cup portrays the huge sugar beet factory that dates back to the turn of the century (1900).  No wonder FALK MERCANTILE chose such an imposing building to advertise their business on.  An early Polk Directory would give information on the Falk Mercantile and give dates when the business started.  This cup and saucer are the kind that were given out as a promotional piece at a businesses' grand opening or another special occasion.  On the back side it mentions "Manufactured in Germany" this is one of the earmarks that antique dealers look for that authenticates souvenir china pieces like this as being truly antique.  Not sure if the saucer is original to the cup; they came together and the two together make a nice set.   Not only a eautiful antique souvenir piece, but also a historically valuable item as well; quite possibly a one-of-a-kind item, check it out!
