This is a fantastic Napoleonic medal that commemorates the battle of Mont St. Jean in 1815. It is 2" in diameter and the relief is almost 1/8" on the obverse. It has lovely chocolate brown surfaces and has proof like fields. The edge has a horn of plenty hallmark and says CUIVRE. This disastrous battle was the most fatal epoch in the life of Napoleon. The medal recording the dreadful event represents, on one side, the head of the Emperor; and, on the reverse, all the paraphernalia of war heaped together and broken; an overthrown laurel still hangs over them. Fortune flies, taking with her the palm of victory.

Note: This medal, commemorating the Battle of Waterloo, is known only from Scargill's description and a 50 mm copy made by Petit(this one), who attributes the design to Denon, who directed Napoleon's medal mint.
