Some months previously, the "House of M", an altered reality created by former Avenger the Scarlet Witch, ended with her causing most of the mutant population of Earth to lose the mutant gene, making them normal humans.  Most of the world is unaware of the cause of the loss of mutant abilities on "M Day".

Now, a massively powerful energy force has landed on Earth, destroying a town in Alaska, and blasting through the Canadian super-team Alpha Flight as the now-humanoid figure plowed through the heart of Canada, on a path toward the USA.  S.H.I.E.L.D. has been unable to stop it, and is forced to call in Earth's Mightiest Heroes--the Avengers! 

But their initial encounter ends badly as the creature, now known to be a humanoid named "Michael" proves too powerful! In the process of defeating Ms. Marvel, her cosmic powers are somehow restored to her!  Meanwhile, a second team of Avengers aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, headed by the Amazing Spider-Man, attempts to determine Michael's true nature and find a way to stop him before any more innocents are killed! 

The gathered information leads Spidey to the realization that this entity appears to possess the powers of the mutants who lost their abilities on M Day--a discovery which leads to trouble aboard the Helicarrier! Meanwhile, Sentry has engaged the entity and taken the battle into space!

This page depicts Spider-Man and the Vision leaving the helicarrier with their fellow Avengers after S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Maria Hill unmasked Spider-Man, then had one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s telepaths garner all the info they wanted from his mind about the "House of M", while another group hacked the Vision's memory core for the same information.  Meanwhile, Sentry has singlehandedly been keeping the entity known as "Michael" away from the Earth!  Nobody knows what the entity's destination or plan is...which makes Hill very nervous!
