If your dog is hard to controll or tends to bolt to the end of the leash it can damage the internal spring mechanism.  I would recomend that if you have a hard to controll dog that you consider buying a heavier duty leash, it will cost alot more than this one but will keep your dog safe.  I have had customers say their dog ate the leash.  This leash is not chew proof, so don't let them eat it. There is no warrranty on the leash.  I have sold hundreds of these leashes with and use one myself.

Absolutely wonderful!!! Looks even better in person! Fast Shiiping! VERY HAPPY!!

The thumb button is the brake and the small side button below the thumb button on the side of the leash is the lock .  While your dog pulls the leash depress and hold the thumb button,  press the lock button, this will lock the leash to a specific lenght untill you unlock it.  The lock simply slides one way to lock and the opposite to unlock.   Allowing your dog to bolt to the end of the leash may damage the mechanism beyond repair.  If your dog pulls very hard or is prone to bolting, it is best to use the thumb brake with out the brake to controll the dog.  I also sell heavy duty leashes for those that have high energy dogs or if you have had problems with retractable leashes in the past..
