Here is Coherent 20 watt, 808nm infrared laser diode in a standard conduction cooled (CCP) package. I have carefully tested it to verify both performance and wavelength. Don't confuse this with similar diodes you may find on eBay which are untested. These are easily damaged and come in a wide range of power and wavelength. If you just want something to play with, try your luck on an untested diode. If you want to know exactly what you're getting, talk with me.
These are very close to 808nm at room temperature which is important for good efficiency in YAG DPSS 1064nm infrared or 532nm green laser systems. Beware of lasers being sold as plus or minus 10nm since 798nm or 818nm is useless for DPSS lasers!
For heating and burning applications, these diodes can be run at 30W or even as high as 40W with a corresponding reduction in the overall lifetime of the diode.

These are aluminum-free active area devices which have twice the operating lifetime of older technology laser diodes.

Every laser diode I sell is individually tested using professional equipment. In this case, an SDL-830 laser diode driver, a Melcor TEC cooled heat sink and an Ophir LaserStar power meter.

Here is the raw output of the laser diode. My digital camera renders the infrared light light purple, but it is actually a dim red.

Be careful - even uncollimated, 20W is enough to easily set things on fire!

This laser diode is very sensitive to static electricity and even a tiny zap that you can't feel can instantly destroy this device or degrade it's performance. You should always use a static strap when handling static sensitive devices such as this.

This laser diode must be attached to a heat sink if before it is powered. Failure to keep the diode cool will dramatically reduce it's operating lifetime and may permanently damage it.

The output of this laser diode is nearly invisible. Don't let this fool you - it is powerful enough to set things on fire and can cause burns and permanent eye damage. You should always wear appropriate safety goggles when working with high power laser devices such as this.
