DESCRIPTION The alternative rock boom of the early 1990s had its roots firmly placed in the fiercely independent ethic of the late 1980s American indie scene. The Pixies were among the first groups to attempt a mainstream assimilation of their indie-rock origins, combining pop sensibilities with jarring guitar sounds, and the primal scream howl of singer Frank Black. Although they never quite set the top 40 alight, they were highly influential on bands such as Nirvana, who managed to successfully replicate the quiet/loud dynamic which The Pixies so deftly executed. This release offers a fascinating look at their early career, including a full-length concert, and on-the-road documentary culled from the late-1980s era. Also featured is a documentary entitled "Gouge," which includes a retrospective on the band, alongside celebrity testimonials from Bono, David Bowie, Thom Yorke, PJ Harvey, and many others. To round off the package a selection of music videos are included, with "Debaser," "Here Comes Your Man," and "Monkey Gone to Heaven," among them.REVIEW "Both their charm and their visceral power galvanize the 1988 London club show captured here."FEATURES DVD Features:
