Fountain Pens

United States of America and United Kingdom

by Andreas Lambrou

This is a wonderful book that is lavishly illustrated with over 500 full-color life-size photographs of the most important and (some previously unpublished) pens from the United States of America and the United Kingdom. The photography is magnificent with most notable brands of collectible pens from the US & UK referenced. The authoritative and comprehensive text is an invaluable reference on both vintage and modern pens. What is important is that it deals not only with the history of the fountain pen but also the history of it's primary manufacturers throughout the world.

This book was created and first published in the year 2000, by Andreas Lambrou of Classic Pens. It is "Brand New" and personally signed by the author, Andreas Lambrou! It is hard bound and measures 7 3/4"wide x 10 3/4"tall with 256 pages and 540 individual color plates. There are also 60 specially commissioned hand produced line drawings that demonstrate the evolution of the fountain pen over time. The "International Standard Book Number"(ISBN), which is a unique 10-digit identification number for books published internationally, for this book is ISBN 0 85667 532 6.

The author, Andreas Lambrou is recognized as a distinguished pen collector and one of the leading international authorities on fountain pens and their industry worldwide. He started collecting pens 46 years ago, at the age of 12, in his native Cyprus. He is a founder member of the Writing Equipment Society formed in 1980, and has served on the Executive as Trade Liaison Officer for fountain pens. He has written articles for international publications including Pen World, Business Magazine, The V.I.P. Guide to London, Vogue, etc., and has catalogued and valued pen museums of international pen manufacturers. He is an authorized pen restorer and co-founder of Classic Pens Ltd., established in 1987, a company that specializes in the customization of limited edition pens through a fruitful working cooperation with international pen manufacturers. Andreas Lambrou has created exclusive and novel guilloche designs for sterling silver which adorn the Classic Pens CP series of Limited Edition pens. His first book, Fountain Pens Vintage and Modern, (Sotheby's, 1989) has come to be recognized as the definitive work on the history of fountain pens and their industry. It is the most successful book on the subject having sold 40,000 copies in five languages. His second book, Fountain Pens of the World, (Classic Pens Ltd., 1995) contains the largest selection of pens ever published in professional full color reproduction. It is recognized as the nearest approximation to an encyclopedia and the most important book ever published on fountain pens. Note: For additional information and extensive photographs regarding the books see the classicpensinc internet site.

The pen manufactures represented in this book from the United States are: Arthur A. Waterman, Edward Todd, Aikin Lambert, Le Boeuf, Diamond Point, Triad, Carter, Waterman, Conklin, Parker, A. T. Cross, Sheaffer, Wahl Eversharp, Chilton, Bexley, Renaissance, and Henrik Wigstrom.

The pen manufacturers represented in this book from the United Kingdom are: Stephens, Mentmore/ Platignum, Curzon/Summit, Wyvern, Burnham, De La Rue, Mabie Todd, Conway Stewart, Parker, and Classic Pens.
