Horizontal Bulb Position: This is very important. ALL top quality, professional grade horticultural grow lights hold the bulb in the horizontal position. This is done to MAXIMIZE light output and light intensity. Light is emitted from the arc tube inside the High Pressure Sodium bulb. This arc tube emits light from along the length of the arc tube. No light is emitted from the back or front of the bulb due to the shape of the arc tube, all light is emitted from the length of the arc tube. There for when the bulb is in the horizontal position half of the light emitted goes straight over the garden. The other half of the light emitted from the bulb travels a very short distance to the reflector and directed down onto the garden. Light loses it's intensity exponentially as it travels through space. That is why it's very good to have as much light go directly from the bulb or travel the shortest distance from the bulb to the reflector to the plants by postioning the bulb horizontally. Reflectors with vertically mounted bulbs are not efficient in that NONE of the light emitted from the bulb goes directly to the plants. ALL light in vertical bulb mounted reflectors has to travel from the arc tube to the reflector and down onto your plants. This diminishes light and light intensity on a very drastic level. The absolute best way to get the most light to your plants is by using a reflector with a horizontal bulb position like this unit we are selling here.
Spectral aluminum reflective insert: Made from highly reflective (95%+ reflective) polished aluminum, this reflector will not rust, corrode, chip or discolor. It combines the high reflectivity of the mirror like finish of the polished aluminum with the excellent light dispersal qualities of a dimpled or hammertoned surface. This is simply the BEST material to use for H.I.D. lighting reflectors. The horizontal configuration delivers the maximum amount of light over the entire garden. Hammertoned surface eliminates "hotspots" and ensures lush, even plant growth. This is much more reflective than "tin" type spotlight type vertical reflectors you may see others peddling here on eBay.
