NEW 72mm Hoya PRO-1 Digital DMC (Digital Multicoated) UV(0) Filter
A must for every lens on a digital camera! This UV (0) lens filter absorbs the ultraviolet rays, which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. Also serves to protect the lens from scratching, dirt, and dust. Plus, this UV filter DOES NOT cut down (97% effective transmission) on light coming into the lens unlike non coated filters.
EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER SHOULD HAVE A UV FILTER ON THE END OF THEIR LENS!
Pro1 Digital Filter Series are filters designed exclusively for Digital Cameras. The Pro1 Digital filter series is the top of the line filter for digital cameras. The Hoya Pro1 Digital filter series key features:
- Digital Multi Coated (DMC) - These filters greatly reduce lens flare and ghosting caused by reflections
- Black Almite Frame (BAF) - A black matte aluminum satin finish almite frame for reducing reflections
- Black Rimmed Glass (BRG) - Black rimmed glass reduces light reflection around the filter edge
- Low Profile Frame (LPF) - Ultra thin filter frames to help avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses
- Knurling Edge Frame (KEF) - Equipped with a knurling edge for easy attachment and removal
- UV Protected Case (UVC) - Filter cases are UV protected to further lengthen the life of filters
Digital Cameras need Multicoated filters.
Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are hightly susceptible to reflections - this stray light can ruin your photographs! Don't risk your valuable photos by using bare-glass filters.
The Clear Advantage.
Take a bare glass filter, hold it so that light reflection off the surface can be seen. Then take a long, very thin object like a pin or the tip of a pen and hold it over the filter so that its reflection can be seen. There will actually be two reflections of the pin on the surface, one a little more pronounced than the other. The more pronounced reflection is from the front surface and the lighter one is from light reflecting off the rear surface. Now try it with a HOYA Digital Multi-Coated filter and see how much more dim the reflection is, a dimmer reflection means less light is reflected off the surface of the glass.
Please see the table below for information about Hoya's different filter series. The colors are an indication of the packaging color.

Why Coating???
There are three main reasons why filters should be coated. Firstly, coating enhances light transmission, secondly, it protects the surface of the filter and thirdly, removes ghosting and flare, particularly between the rear of a filter and the surface of the lens. In general, light transmission increases as more layers of coating are applied.
