NEW Medium Format
Stereo Viewer
With internal illumination, focusing &
interocular adjustment
Same wonderful
Achromatic Lenses as its "steal-the-light" brother, but many new
extra features:
Focusing |
Interocular Adjustment |
Battery Operated (3 x AA) |
Momentary Light Switch at the top |
The viewer has been reviewed by several members of the
MF3D-group @ yahoogroups.com
email discussion list. Here is my summary of the viewer's features:
LENSES: The lenses are the same as the STL
viewer, which are very good coated achromatic lenses, 32mm in
diameter and 75mm in focal length. Mike Davis writes: "Just
as with the STL viewer, these lenses are sharp right into the corner of the
frame, with no apparent chromatic aberration and just a hit of pincushion
distortion."
ILLUMINATION: Illumination is provided by an
array of 18 LEDs. The light is very uniform and sufficiently bright,
with good color. The momentary contact switch at the top is working very
well. The viewer is powered with 3 x AA batteries.
The diffuser can accumulate dust rather easily, but the viewer
can be easily taken apart to clean the diffuser (see details below)
FOCUSING: The viewer offers 18mm focusing
range. The first batch of these viewers had the infinity at the extreme focusing range.
However, in this 2nd batch, this problem is corrected and now the viewer
will work well for ALL users, young and older, myopic and presbyopic.
INTEROCULAR ADJUSTMENT: The interocular
adjustment is via simple friction and it goes from 62-66mm. I tend to
use my viewer with the lenses at the maximum separation.
In his review, Mike Davis concludes: "There's a lot to
like about this viewer, just as it is. It's cosmetically attractive,
instantly comfortable in the hands, compact (perhaps to a fault). I think it will be
well-received by the majority of users.... It's the only illuminated MF
viewer available, so for that reason alone we should be appreciative."
How
to Take the Viewer Apart - AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Start by removing one single screw in the battery compartment, seen in the
top left picture. From there, carefully remove the light panel, which is
supported by two hinges in the opposite side. The hinges are plastic, so
be careful not to break them. The pictures below show you some of the
steps you will go through. PLEASE do this at your own risk and be
careful! The viewer in not meant to be disassembled and assembled too
many times.
