How to Remove a Laptop Screen
View 1
Before you start, make sure your laptop is off and is unplugged from your power supply; you should remove the battery as well. Your laptop screen is held in place by a plastic bezel. To remove the bezel on most laptops, you must first remove the screws that hold the bezel in place. The screws are usually covered by a small rubber screw cover. This photo shows the laptop’s bezel, LCD screen and rubber screw covers. Some laptops, such as Apples, don’t have screws holding the bezel in place. Bezels on such laptops will usually snap in and out of place.
Step 1: Remove Screw Covers
The first thing you will need to do is remove the rubber screw covers. If your laptop doesn’t have these screw covers, you can move on to step 2.
To remove the screw covers, use a knife or razor blade to pry them off. Be sure to remove all of them. Inspect your laptop for any that you may have missed.
Step 2: Remove Screws
Now that the screw covers are removed, the screws should be exposed. You must have a Phillips screw driver small enough to remove the screws, which are generally rather small. Don’t lose these screws, they are small and can easily be misplaced, but you will need them.
Step 3: Remove Bezel
Once you have all the screws removed, it is time to take the bezel off the laptop. Most bezels will unsnap and come off easily. You can use your fingernails to get between the bezel and the screen. Start at the bottom and work your way around the whole screen. Be careful, the bezel is thin plastic and can break easily.

Step 4: Remove Screws From Frame
The LCD screen should be exposed now, and you will need to remove the screws that are holding it in place. The screws surround the screen on the other edges. Remove the screws from the metal frame.
Some laptops have screws on the hinge that you must remove as well. Be sure to remove these as well if need be.
Step 5: Remove Screws On Side
Some laptops also require you to remove the screws from the side of the screen. Not all laptops have a metal from that hold the screen in place on the side. Be sure to examine your laptop and remove these screws as well if you must.
Also note that some laptops have a screw holding the inverter, the screen, and the frame together. Again, examine closely to see what the situation is with your hardware.

Step 6: Video Cable
We suggest you put something soft on your keyboard so that you can lay your screen on it while you remove the video cable and inverter cable. Most video cables have tape holding them in place. Peel the tape off enough so that you can remove the video cable. The video cable simply pulls out of position. Lift the tape upwards from the screen to free the video cable from the back of the screen. Then, carefully remove the video cable plug from its port / outlet. Be aware that video cables can be fragile.
Step 7: Inverter Cable
The inverter is at the bottom of the screen. Your screen has an inverter cable that is connected to the screen, which you will have to remove.
Use your fingers or a small screw driver to pull the inverter plug from the inverter board.
View 4: Label
Your screen is now successfully removed. The label on the back of the screen will help you determine which replacement screen you will need to purchase.
To install the new screen, simply follow these instructions in reverse order.
