The RTL8191SU-GR baseband implements Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with one transmit and two receive paths (1T2R). Features include one spatial stream transmissions, short Guard Interval (GI) of 400ns, spatial spreading, and support for both 20MHz and 40MHz channel bandwidth. The RTL8191SU-GR provides spatial stream Space-Time Block Code (STBC) to extend transmission range. As a receiver, extended range and good minimum sensitivity is achieved by having receiver diversity via 2 antennas.

For legacy compatibility, Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS), Complementary Code Keying (CCK) and OFDM baseband processing are included to support all IEEE 802.11b, and 802.11g data rates. Differential phase shift keying modulation schemes, DBPSK and DQPSK with data scrambling capability are available, and CCK provides support for legacy data rates, with long or short preamble. The high speed FFT/IFFT paths, combined with BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM modulation of the individual subcarriers, and rate compatible punctured convolutional coding with coding rate of 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, and 5/6, provide the higher data rates of 54Mbps and 300Mbps for IEEE 802.11g and 802.11n MIMO OFDM respectively.

The RTL8191SU-GR builds in an enhanced signal detector, an adaptive frequency domain equalizer, and a soft-decision Viterbi decoder to alleviate severe multi-path effects and mutual interference in the reception of multiple streams. For better detection quality, receive diversity with Maximal-Ratio-Combine (MRC) applying up to two receive paths is implemented. Robust interference detection and suppression are provided to protect against Bluetooth, cordless phone, and microwave oven interference.

Receive vector diversity for multi-stream application is implemented for efficient utilization of the MIMO channel. Efficient IQ-imbalance, DC offset, phase noise, frequency offset, and timing offset compensations are provided for the radio frequency front-end. Selectable digital transmit and receive FIR filters are provided to meet transmit spectrum mask requirements and to reject adjacent channel interference, respectively.

The RTL8191SU-GR supports fast receiver Automatic Gain Control (AGC) with synchronous and asynchronous control loops among antennas, antenna diversity functions, and adaptive transmit power control functions to obtain better performance in the analog portions of the transceiver.

The RTL8191SU-GR MAC supports 802.11e for multimedia applications, 802.11i for security, and 802.11n for enhanced MAC protocol efficiency. Using packet aggregation techniques such as A-MPDU with BA and A-MSDU, protocol efficiency is significantly improved. Power saving mechanisms such as Legacy Power Save, U-APSD, and MIMO power saving reduce the power wasted during idle time, and compensate for the extra power required to transmit MIMO OFDM. The RTL8191SU-GR provides simple legacy and 20MHz/40MHz co-existence mechanisms to ensure backward and network compatibility.

FAQ- some common questions about 802.11n wireless adapters: This says it has a maximum range of 300 mbps, so that means I will always connect at 300 mbps, right? -300 mbps is the maximum speed you may get when using with an 802.11n standard router. The speed will drop as the distance between the adapter and router increases or if there are obstacles and interference in your area. Also to achieve the best performance your router should be set to broadcast in 802.11n only, and not mixed N/G. I installed your N adapter but my internal 802.11g laptop adapter picks up the same amount of outside access points, why? -Because 802.11n is a new technology, chances are most of the access points around your home or office are still 802.11g or 802.11b standard. 802.11n is a technology that uses multiple antennas in both the adapter and the router to exchange data faster and from further away. The adapter is backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b standard equipment, but when used with those standards only one antenna is utilized, just like a standard 802.11g or 802.11b adapter. Therefore if there a bunch of 802.11g or b signals around, an 802.11n adapter will perform similar to an 802.11g or b adapter. To take advantage of the long range and fast speeds offered by 802.11n, the wireless router you use it with must be 802.11n standard. In time, when more and more people upgrade their routers to 802.11n, you will notice you are detecting more networks from greater ranges, at much faster connection speeds. I am only connecting to my home 802.11g access point at 54 mbps, and your ad says 300 mbps, what's up? -In order to take advantage of the fast speeds and longer range offered by 802.11n, both the adapter and the router/access point must be 802.11n standard. You can use this with an 802.11g or b standard access point, but your top speeds will be limited to the top speeds of the router, 54 mbps in the case of 802.11g, and 11 mbps in the case of 802.11b.

The following is our return policy. We are not able to make exceptions to this policy so please read carefully before making a purchase. At Rokland, our products are guaranteed to work for 30 days. Additionally, we want customers to be able to return products that they don't want, don't like, or did not mean to buy. That said, we do incur costs for each return, such as the nonrefundable eBay listing and feature fees. If an item returned was new, we must resell it for much less money as a used open box item. Therefore, we charge a minimal 10% restocking fee on all returned items (new and used), except for products that test defective upon receipt back here. We believe this is a fair policy as most eBay sellers do not allow for any non-defective items to be returned at all, and the ones that do typically charge a 20% restocking fee. Again, this 10% restocking fee will be applied to all returns except where a product is reported to us as defective and tests defective upon receipt back here (if the product you return is defective we can send a replacement at our expense or issue a refund of the item price, whichever you prefer). A restocking fee WILL be charged even in the event a product does not work on your PC due to incompatibility or a conflict with another piece of hardware on your system, so long as the product is not defective. If you do wish to return a product, please contact us for an RMA number and return address instructions. In addition to the restocking fee (which will be deducted from your refund), shipping and return shipping expenses are not refundable under any circumstance unless we ship you the incorrect product. 2. Insurance and proof of shipment: Items sent outside the USA are insured. US Postal Regulations state insurance covers only the cost of the product, and does not cover the shipping charge. When you inquire for shipping rate quotes, we will advise you of the average time frame for delivery. If your product has not arrived within 21 mailing days of shipping, please contact us so we can trace the package for you. All parcels are sent with tracking and tracking information is provided to the customer at the time of shipment. If your package is lost in transit, we will file an insurance claim on your behalf. The US Postal Service requires that all insurance claim filings include a signed letter from you, the recipient, stating you have not received the parcel shipped to your address. This is a requirement and the letter can be faxed to us, scanned and emailed, or sent through Postal mail. We cannot issue any refunds for lost packages or ship any replacements without this letter. If you select a replacement, we will pay to ship it to you. If you select a refund, you will be refunded only the price of the product, as noted above US Postal Regulations do not allow us to insure the cost of the postage.
3. Returns: Buyers outside the USA may return products in accordance with our above advertised return policy.
