NJ-92 - One shilling - PMG 64 EPQ (exceptional paper quality) - New Jersey Colony - June 22, 1756 - Plate B


Amazing - #1 Highest Grade.

Bold inks, triple signed. An unbelievable gem specimen from this rare first series. Extremely rare in this grade - According to the PMG Census, this stunning note is tied with only one other for the Highest grade on the Census.


Rarity:
All the notes from this series are quite scarce to rare in high grade. The upper denominations were heavily targeted for counterfeiting.


Some important history on this note:
Printed by James Parker in Woodbridge. Front of the bills  Nature print of a sage leaf on the back. Plates A and B are used for all denominations with the following exceptions: the 1s and 12s have plates A-C, the 30s has plates A-D, and the £6 has no plate designation.

The front of the bills of 15s and under are in black while the three highest denominations are in red and black print. There are three engraved ornamental borders in black. The bottom border is a row of black symbols, that includes a scorpion. The British Coat of arms is positioned at bottom left (the Lion and the Unicorn holding the crown).  Numbering box is at top right, with a tiny images at left and right.

On the back is a nature print of a sage leaf at center, surrounded by ornamental border designs. The designs at bottom of the leaf contain very clever anti-counterfeiting devices, which is two small letters "i"  hidden within. Text below reads "Woodbridge" and "Printed by James Parker".  Text above the top of leaf reads "One Shilling". The small design at very bottom of the note appears to be a Ram.
