| This is a beautiful commemorative coin minted with a piece of the NWA 869 meteorite. This meteorite was found in 2000, in the Sahara desert. Thousands of pieces were found, weighing over 4 TONS total! Most of this meteorite has been sold off, or cut up, and I myself made beads and jewelry out of it. Part of the jewelry making process mean that pieces too small to use were tumbled and returned to me in small pieces. It is those small pieces I used to embed in this coin. NWA 869 is a stony meteorite, chondrite (L4-6)
My partner and I designed and minted a set of 1000 of these coins, which are made of metal and have information about the NWA 869 meteorite, and include a small piece of the meteorite which has been tumbled, embedded in the coin. This coin measures 50 mm in diameter, and is # 0760 of a series of 1000 pieces. The cube in the photo measures 1 cm. I am a meteorite dealer and fully gaurantee the authenticity of every meteorite and tektite specimen I sell. Be sure to see me in the March 1999 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine, I am featured in an article about meteorite hunters! I am also featured in Fortune Small Business magazine.
