The bodice of the dress is a dark blue velvet with a stretchy knit leotard material back for comfort (NO MORE VELCRO LIKE THE OTHER COSTUMES THAT FRAY THE MATERIAL WHEN IT ACCIDENTLY GETS STUCK). Just pull on the dress...it is comfortable too....no more itchy unbearable moments....my oldest is very fussy with her dance studio and dress up costumes and loves the feeling of this costume....no more complaints!  The attached yellow satin skirt comes complete with a tulle petticoat. Also INCLUDED is a beautiful magenta and white satin cape w/ stand up collar.
