What causes snoring

Snoring is noisy breathing through the mouth and nose during sleep. It can occur when you are breathing in or out. Snoring occurs when air does not flow smoothly through the air passages, or when the soft tissues or muscles in your air passages vibrate. During sleep, the muscles in the tongue, throat and roof of the mouth (soft palate) relax, causing the throat tissues to sag. • Loud, frequent snoring.
• Excessive daytime sleepiness/fatigue.
• Unrest sleeps with feelings of grogginess, dullness, morning headaches, severe dryness of the mouth.

As sleep apnea causes a person to stop breathing during their sleep several times, the oxygen levels in the blood drops, forcing the heart to work and pump harder than normal. The risks include elevated blood pressure; irregular heart beat, strokes, and related heart diseases. It may also cause daytime sleepiness, affecting job performance, accidents and others. The severity of the symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe.
