This is wonderful art book published in 1952 to highlight the painting collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and is edited by Huntington Cairns and John Walker. Unlike many art books, it does not contain critical commentary or history on the featured artwork, but descriptive and inspirational writings from great literature of the world to aesthetically illuminate some meaning from each painting.
Overall condition of the book is excellent. The dust cover is torn but binding and cover are like new. Pages are clean and crisp with a beautiful, full color print on every other page.
This big book is 11.5 by 15.25 inches and features the best of the painting collection of one of the best art collections in the USA. It features 85 full page, full color prints from the National Gallery's permanent collection with information about the artwork and artist on the opposite page. This book is from a single private collection and appears to have spent most of its life on a shelf. Other than the dust cover, it appears new. Binding is tight, cover is great, and pages are mint. The book covers a wide variety of artists and art periods.
