Although previously owned,( by me) this  Fender USA Telecaster has been performance modified and a Fender warranty no longer applies. It is in New & Unused condition,  All components used in the restoration of this hand assembled guitar are New. Brent Mason is a driving force on the Telecaster , the list of stars that he has contributed his amazing talents to is compiled of some of the most impressive names in country. His style and capabilities on the guitar do not stop there. If you have not yet heard some of his works, do yourself a favor and check him out. This guy will send alot of us back to the woodshed and possibly spark the newfound interest that we need to define our own playing. And overwhelming interest in my last triple pickup telecaster, sparked me to offer this on a different platform. This brand new top of the line American Deluxe was chosen by me for its exceptional beauty and resonant tones that it offered. While the AD models are quite nice, they lack the "tonal girth" and variety of sounds that it takes to make musical history on a Telecaster.

Our  Triple pickup  Satisfaction telecaster will cover Big fat humbucking tones, quack, chime and searing lead tones. A great telecaster should also have the snap and pop tones that all tele purists crave, and last but not least, quiet for studio recording, while not sounding sterile. I am happy to say, Im very pleased.To accomplish this we have installed, a dose of Gibson PAF history  in the neck position and a dual dose Seymour Duncan pickups, with a wiring circuit  just like the well known studio player Brent Mason. It will take a while to go over all the upgrades and special treatments that we have in place on this telecaster, grab a cup of coffee and check it out.

The body for our Satisfaction telecaster comes from the top of the line American Deluxe telecaster, these bodies are premium swamp ash. Ash is a preferred tonewood in telecasters since the earliest days of Fender, in later years its seen in use only on the most expensive models in the Telecaster lineup. Here is how the body looked after routing in our shop.

 Additional routing and shielding procedures are then completed. While these bodies are routed for a humbucker from the factory , that is not deep enough to accept a Gibson or other aftermarket pickups.

Brent chose Seymour Duncan pickups for his telecaster and a Gibson mini humbucker for the neck position, For this telecaster, I went with the same "Trio of Tone "! In the neck position the Gibson PAF mini humbucker, for those tone drenched classic Gibson tones , the middle position is the Seymour Duncan Hot Stack for strat, and the lead position is the Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack for telecasters.

 These pickups combined with Ralph & Sandy's Custom Shop special wiring circuit will cover a complete range of tones, from at least 3 different guitars, in all their respective glory. I am sure you have heard Brent's stellar picking with this setup,  He certainly is not just a country picker by any stretch of the imagination, his blues,classic rock and jazz licks are equally as impressive. Check his samples out on my space and you will be floored !

A telecaster control plate has limited space, patience, planning, and determination are the keys to sucess. All the components used for construction of this control plate are top shelf , they include CRL spring loaded switching, cloth wiring, premium CTS pots, premium push pull pot, and master No load tone, finished off with one of the best tone caps in the business , from Hovland Music Cap. I have installed a .033 for the best possible sweep and range of tones with these pickups. I had a long conversation with Duncan pickups about the use of 250ks with this setup and they were in full agreement, It was a wise choice. With this setup you will enjoy the complete tonal spectrum of sound, and that famous woman tone!

Here is a bit of information from Hovland:

The result is a quality product which, while not inexpensive, delivers immediately discernible benefits and will over the long run prove an exceptional value.

If you look around at tone caps, You will notice,  Inexpensive and inferior Orange drops or chicklets in use, at less than a dollar, these choices would not be considered the best. 

This is wired in our neat fashion that you have come to expect from Ralph and Sandy's Custom Shop. Here is a quick shot more on this neat system later.

For an extra twist, I have placed the control plate reversed in its cavity. This requires additional routing and planning by the way. Why would I do this? In the heat of a solo, with the tight area of a telecaster, you tend to hit the pickup switch. This  reverse orientation will avoid that problem, and also puts the Master volume right where you want it most.. for volume swells ! You will be thankful how useful this situation is, and takes very little practice to get comfortable.

Here are the componets used in the construction of this guitar

Under the hood, resides a trio of humbuckers ,that will deliver every tone your heart desires. Don't forget they are arranged specifically to their respective positions.......where they are most useful........ and deliver the tones they were designed for. With this arrangement you can simulate Big fat Gibson tones, Strat quack and chime, and telecaster rythym tones as well as spanky biting lead telecaster tones that all tele purists crave !

The mid position pickup is a Hot stack for strat.

For the lead position, Seymour Duncan's amazing Vintage lead stack, this pickup retains all the teeth of a telecaster pickup while being studio quiet !

Even the Custom cut Warmoth pickguard is fully shielded as well as the cavities, then grounded back to the control pots

 Master Volume, coil split and boost for the Hot stack middle pickup are all achevied with the use of this control.I am sure this will bring about remarks and unwanted input from the peanut gallery...but I am in total agreement with Brent on the use of this switch. The real beauty of this control comes from the ability to have normal telecaster pickup switchings and dedicated extended control over the middle pickup functions. This opens up a world of tonal control.

The Switchcraft output jack is mounted to a Electrosocket. These were previously designed and built by Exact order specialites, who no longer manufacture these, that patent has been sold to Allparts for manufacturing and sales.

Let's get back to the control plate and its functions

How does that fretwork look ?

The control plate consists of premium components needed to execute the tones that Brent uses. The push, push pot... directly controls the middle pickup. It will control volume and cut as well as boost. The 3 way switch controls the neck pickup and the bridge pickup, rendering the 3 standard tele tones. Where things get interesting is with the use of the push push pot. Rotating the pot clockwise or counterclockwise will blend the amount of middle pickup into the mix that you want. This will deliver the number 2 and 4 tones of a stratocaster... with the 3 way switch in either the neck or bridge position. This also will deliver all three pickups together by placing the switch in the middle position. Pretty cool huh ? It gets even better, You can blend the amount of the center pickup together with either of the other 2 or both and conjure up a whole new set of tones previously unheard of. But it doesn't stop there ! In the downward position of the push push pot, the coil is cut, rendering a whole other set of tones available with the use of the master blend control, pull up on the pot and you have a boosted tone, with both coils and the option of blending how much of the middle pickup you would like !

Let's have a look at the components involved and how they work together

 Don't forget the added benefits of the reverse oriented volume plate.The Custom shop has used this idea on some of their models and its simply wonderful. The master volume is perfect for volume swells and the switch at the other end avoids the mishaps that always happen in the normal placement. This requires additional routing of the volume cavity, that we have completed.

The American Deluxe neck boasts all the features that today's player requires. It has vintage appeal with its vintage tint, round string tree and U shaped profile. The similarites to vintage end there. The neck sports, a 9.5 radius, medium jumbo frets,& dual truss rod adjustment at the headstock. It also has abalone dot markers and special nut and fret treatment. This makes for a very special neck that lacks only 1 thing, Attention to detail.
