Navajo Native American Indian Rug Blanket Textile weave

This is an excellent example of an antique NAVAJO TRANSITIONAL WEARING / UTILITARIAN BLANKET, with a Classic Pattern, great color and very fine wools. This is an old blanket, from approximately 1890 and it is in excellent condition considering its age. A Real Looker, utilizing diagonal bands, serrated waves, and unusual "V" shaped chevrons, as well as incredibly rich colors. This rug is most likely made from Churro Wools, expertly hand spun, hand carded and hand dyed which still have plenty luster, sheen and vibrancy. The rug speaks for itself, a truly classic motif! The white, grey, brown and black are hand spun and hand carded natural sheep's wool colors. The red is hand dyed with the old Red Vegetal Dyes, note the 2 tones of red - the darker brown/red is definitely a vegetal dye and the lighter red is either a red Aniline or vegetal dye. The grey/blue is hand spun and carded grey wool, over-dyed with the ancient and traditionally used Indigo Blue Vegetal Dye (imported form Mexico during the 1800's).

This is truly a fine example of a Classic Transitional Blanket, ready to display as is (professionally cleaned by a Navajo Rug Cleaner, no odors and ready to go) in your home, cabin, shack...or castle!

The size of this rug is approximately 65" X 43", with a warp of 5 and a weft of about 24 , the warp and weft yarns are very nicely spun, soft yet thick and durable (all 100% wool).

SELVAGE: The Side Selvage Cords are 98% intact (a few brief and partial breaks), a twist of three, 2-ply grey wool yarns. The End Selvage Cords are about 100% intact/present, a braid of three, 1-ply fine white, grey, and pink wool yarns.

NO Moth nibbles/grazing/bug holes/bug damage, NO Notable Fading, NO stains/staining, NO holes. The corner ties are worn from time/use, but the corners are in good condition (see pic. of corners). There is one small area of grey wool which is worn/frayed, not bad however - see the last pic. .

No odors, clean and ready to display. Overall in great condition with slight wear as expected for age.
