In Roman mythology, Neptune is the god of water and the sea. He is the brother of Jupiter and Pluto. Neptune is analogous with Poseidon in Greek mythology, but not identical. The Ancient Roman idea of Neptune was similar to the Etruscan god Nethuns. For a time Neptune was paired with Salacia, goddess of salt water. In earlier times the god Portunes or Fortunus was thanked for naval victories, but Neptune supplanted him by the first century BC when Sextus Pompeius deemed himself 'son of Neptune'. He is also associated with fresh water under the name 'Neptune Equester', patron of horse racing. The planet Neptune was named after him, due to its deep blue colored gas clouds giving astronomers the impression of oceans and the sea.

Cold Cast Bronze is a modern method of casting sculptures using a mixture of resin and powdered bronze for material. The finished sculpture has a surface which looks very similar to traditionally cast bronze, but tends to be much lighter.
