As seen on foto very thick app 5-17mm green jade offcuts. Their colour varies from very dark green to lighter green. Beautiful smooth surface on both sides. This type of stone is used for Maori carvings. You are getting the pieces you see on the foto. Ideal for lapidary, jewellery making. Ruler shows inches. Greenstone is a name New Zealanders use describe Jade. New Zeland jade is a nephrite, - really hard stone and it comes in a variety of green shades. The Maori name for it is Pounamu. Depending on the shade of green, a stone is named Kahurangi ( rare, very light green), Kawakawa ( strong green colour with different shades throughout), Inanga ( pearl white grey/green), or Tangiwai ( olive green translucent colour)
Maori people discovered Pounamu's properties as a really hard stone and made it into cutting tools. They fitted the sharp stone on wooden handles and tied them with cords made of flax leaves. Maori people also used to wear small stones of Pounamu as a good luck charm.
