Nikon LS-40 CoolScan IV ED Film Scanner Tested, working, includes cables, software MA-20(s) and SA-21
This item is a Nikon LS-40 Coolscan IV ED film scanner. This is a recent Nikon film scanner for 35mm slides and negatives (it can also scan APS film rolls with a film feeder accessory that is not included). It's resolution is 2,900 dpi, which gives about a 12 megapixel image, and it has "Digital ICE". Scanned images can be saved in either JPEG (about 3 to 6 megabytes per image) or TIFF (warning, very high quality but you will be creating files that can exceed 50 megabytes in size ... PER IMAGE!!).
Included with this item are the following accessories:
- Nikon LS-40 (Coolscan IV ED) film scanner
- Nikon MA-20(s) film adapter for mounted images (slides, normally)
- Nikon SA-21 film strip adapter for strips of cut film, 2 to 6 images (negatives, normally)
- CD of downloaded drivers, manual (pdf on CD) and other software and documentation
- Power Cord
- USB cable
If you want more information on Nikon film scanners and "Digital ICE" in general, see my other auctions for an LS-2000, an older Nikon film scanner model, that I am also offering this week. Compared to the LS-2000, this model (LS-40) is a newer model with slightly higher resolution and a slightly more advanced version of Digital ICE, plus a USB interface instead of SCSI. [That said, having used both models, I actually like the LS-2000 better although there is no doubt that the USB interface is more universal than SCSI.] In most other regards, the LS-40 and the LS-2000 are generally similar. Do note that as one of Nikon's "dumbed down" models, the LS-40 (like the LS-30 and the LS-50) does not accept any of Nikon's bulk slide feeder accessories (although these are so expensive ($300 to $500) that for most people they are not an issue anyway).
Some of you may know that I buy, refurbish, service and sell some models of Nikon film scanners (see my other ads on E-Bay). Normally, I do not deal in this model (LS-40 or it's sister the LS-4000). I have not serviced this unit fully (e.g. complete refurbishment), but I did clean the optics (one of the few things that is easy to do on this model), and I connected it to a computer and did some scans with it only to verify that it was functional. It is working and it seems to be in ok condition. It is sold with a "no DOA" warranty, but there is no no subsequent warranty on this item.
Shipping (48 US states) will be $30, which includes careful packing, tracking and insurance. SALES TO US ONLY PLEASE (AK, HI, etc. ok but shipping will be higher .... this item is not offered for sale at all outside of US states and territories). Thank you for your interest in my auction.
