Nikon MD-2 / MB-1 Motor Drive and Battery Pack Introduced in 1973 the MD-2 was Nikon's ultra premium motor drive. According to the Nikon price list the 1978 price of the MD-2 with battery pack and battery holders was $1065.50, the same price list has the Nikon F2AS in the black finish at $1025.00! Serial Number: 413089 Both MS-1 battery holders with new batteries are included. The MD-2 motor drive in complete and NEAR MINT condition is very rare. It is suitable for the discriminating collector. Specifics of this motor drive: (scale of 1-10) Mechanical --10 All mechanical parts work perfectly, including the battery check meter, there is no corrosion anywhere and the motor drive works just as strong as the day it left the factory. NOTE: The battery check indicator gauge no longer responds, this is a common ailment but labor intensive (therefore expensive) to repair. As the battery gauge has no effect on the operation of the drive I have never seen anyone spend the money to repair it). Cosmetic --9+ NO dents or dings, no scratches or brassing. There is hardly any signs of use, mostly restricted to a few rubs on the bottom edge from setting it down. The satin black enamel retains all it's original lustre and all the white printing is bright, crisp and full. This motor drive is in superior condition. Please check the photos carefully, an MD-2 motor drive in this fine condition is hard to find. All in all an amazing example of this 36 year old classic. They do not make them like this anymore and perhaps never again will. Many more classic Nikon auctions> other items! The pictures are of the actual camera you are bidding on. CAMERA BUYERS TIP #1: Older cameras (such as this one) have many potential issues. A partial list of the most common defects would include: deteriorating light seals and/or mirror foam, internal dirt or dust on the prism or focusing screen, sluggish mirror return, inaccurate shutter speeds, dead or inaccurate light meter, shorted electronics, stripped film advance gears. The charges to fix ANY of these problems usually starts at about $75.00 and escalates upwards from there (and that is just the labor). If parts are required most often the camera cannot be repaired as parts have not been available for a decade. Its a wonderful thing that these cameras were made so well that if handled properly they will last another generation or more. It is important to you that when you buy a used camera you have an inspection period and the total right of return. If not you may get lucky and get a camera with no issues (in my experience that would be VERY lucky) more likely you will have a servicing bill that is equal to or more than the cost of the camera.
