Before the automobile made love a strictly private afIair, the traction lines served Dan Cupid's interests with their special summer cars, and often, as old timers will recall, even helped Love along with supplementary entertainment along the way.

On week ends, open car s bound for the beaches, the amusement parks or the mountains, spotted coloured lights and a trolley company musician entertained with a c cor d i a n or trumpet making with the jive of his day while the motorman tooled along through the weeds at forty per.

Our best picture of a high-platformed summer car is of the Nantaket Beach Line of the New York, New Haven & Hartford While this car was operated over a centrally located third rail, it would not be amiss to run it under your own catenary as such conversions were frequently made on other lines.

If you really want to amble this car, why not put power to both trucks? Because of the prodigious height of the platform, it will not be necessary to have the motors project through the deck as would be the case with a city ear prototype. Therefore, the Nantasket Beach Line Car for our pur­poses is practically perfect. Let's go!
