Bidding has ended on this item. Item:O Scale Brass Kit for CP Huntington |
|
|
This auction is for all the parts shown in the attached photos. With these parts the builder can make a brass O Scale model of the C.P. Huntington. These parts were created by taking an old Silver Streak plastic model and basically using a"Lost Plastic" technique my caster made brass the castings for me. I've been told this is how Kemtron made these same castings years ago. Along with all the castings I'm including an extra driver casting, tires, NWSL wheels for the lead truck (flush axles) & the trailing truck (shouldered axles), all the turnings (whistle, stanchions, etc.), Silver Streak instructions, the best set of decals I have (probably 60 years old) and valve gear (minus rivets). This model is cast in brass but my caster added an alloy to the mixture to make the metal look like steel. This was done so that parts I wanted to look like steel (rods, valve guides, etc could be left in their natural state. It is brass and will solder just like yellow brass (I know because I've built a few of these already. If the price seems high please remember, I paid between 50 & 100 dollars for the plastic kit and another $250 to have the castings made so my investment is $300 to $350 before you add the NWSL wheel sets (another $12 to $13). This is a collection of all the major parts to make a rare model. It will require skill and patience to build it properly. The builder will also have to provide screws, motor, gears, couplers and other small parts. The builder will have to machine the drivers. All I'm providing is the rough castings however, I will be machining some drivers for a couple of CP Huntington's in a few weeks and for an additional $25.00 I will make a finished set for the high bidder. Well, we have another expert that really doesn't know what he's taking about. This so called expert is concerned about the possibility of 4% shrinkage of these parts. He was kind enough to send me a message that I've attached below. I replied to him that the shrinkage is closer to 1 1/2% but I was wrong. I've talked to two of my friends that do lost wax castings and both tell me that when you're doing plastic to brass the shrinkage is only 1/2%. These two gentleman are considered to be in the top of their field. I won't mention names but one lives in Texas and the other in Fresno. To verify the shrinkage I measured an original Silver Streak frame against the casting being auctioned here and the brass copy is .020" shorter. That's under 1/2% percent I believe (guess I'll grab the calculator and check). Please note: This is not my original description for this auction. Some how ebay inserted the description of another auction into this one. Buyer to pay for all shipping costs and insurance is recommended. I prefer PayPal and require all purchases outside of the USA to be made with PayPal. Please ask any questions before bidding. All bidders outside of the US will have to use PayPal and pay with US Dollars. Thank you for looking. |
