Jose Juan Aguilar is the son of the famous Josefina Aguilar, one of the sisters who created the Oaxacan ceramic art form. Made for the Day of the Dead celebration, or Dias de los Muertos, these fantastic insects either freak you out or are the coolest things you have ever seen! This one reminds me of the "The Rock" portraying the scorpion king in the Mummy movie that came out a few years ago.
Each sculpture that is listed has the artists signature etched into the clay, is meticulously painted, and has wire legs and or antennae that can be adjusted. These are works by one of Mexico's most up and coming artists from a family that already is highly collectible and masters of a unique medium.
