Apparently translated anonymously by an in-house translator working for the Original British publisher, Lenormant extensively revised and added to the text for the English edition. Edited, and with a preface by William Rickets Cooper, a founder of Bagster and Secretary to the Society of Biblical Archaeology, this work primarily explores the 12th-century translation of a large tablet from the library of the royal palace at Nineveh. François Lenormant was born in Paris in 1835, the son of Charles Lenormant (1802-1859), and followed in his father's footsteps as an archaeologist and classical historian. He was a member of several learned societies, acting as Deputy Librarian of L'Institut de France and later being elected a member of L'Academie Francaise. Lenormant died in 1883.
