FROM the STUDIO~~In "August Pumpkin" John has composed an interesting farm landscape. First let me say I think this work is beautiful-he has captured the true colors of a first harvest of a wonderful sign of Fall. Placing the pumpkin on a barn window sill with the sturdy vine still attached this oil will catch the viewer's eye. The stone makeup of the barn is noted under the vegetable and the distant window brings the light into the darkened barn. Shadows and reflections are studied well by this Pennsylvania Impressionist of Bucks County residence. An artwork in 14"x11" that will be an interesting addition to your collection. John McDowell Williams (b.1949) is a complex artist. His subjects are many and his style is his alone. Although he has been compared to Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer, and Zoltan Szabo-all artists he admires, John's vision is continually evolving. As a multi-media {working in gouache, watercolors and oils} University trained in the Fine Arts, John knows the importance of color harmony, balance and uniqueness in his composition. Yet daily experience is his basis of Impressionist Art. The American Scene is surely a John McDowell Williams adventure.
