In 1963, the world came to the Star Mountains via a government patrol. Then came the discovery of gold & copper on a cloud-covered peak called Fubilan. 12 years of exploratory drilling followed until, in February 1981, a company called Ok Tedi Mining Ltd was formed to mine the ore deposits at Mt Fubilan. Today, construction of the Ok Tedi mine continues. It is a mammoth project, a huge exercise in logistics & planning. This book shows a typical day at Ok Tedi. Most of the photos were shot on one day August 10, 1983.
