a scale of 1:4340 or about 15 inches to the mile

This map is a must for the historian, genealogist and anyone interested in local history of Chelmsford South , Essex between the 1891 and 1901 census period.  On  the reverse of the map is an historic introduction by Harry Carmichael together with extracts from. Kelly's Directory of Essex 1895.  This rural map  map details the area at that time and it is interesting to compare to a modern day map. The detail is down to farm,  street, houses, churches, schools, factories, railway lines,  It shows the Chelmer & Blackwater Canal and towing path etc.

The Nursery and Almshouses, Elm Road, down to Oaklands and surrounding plots of land, Moulshamhall Gardens, St John's Vicarage and plots of land up to Longstumps Road, St John's Church, Moulsham Street, Roman Road, school, Grove Road, Hamlet Road, Catholic Church, Golday Road, Tannery, Friars Place, Old Bridge to Springfield Road, Mesopotamia Island, Gas Works, Chemlsford, River Chelmer and Chelmer & Blackwater Canal towing path, down to Moulsham Mill (corn) Moulsham Mill House, Goldlay House, Whitehouse Farm, Prospect House, Moulsham Lodge, Isolation Hospital, gravel pits, Chelmerton Lodge, Meadowgate and Baddow Water Tower and reservoir , etc  (This is just an example of the streets, places on this detailed map)
