I HAVE HAD A FEW PEOPLE SAY IT MAY BE A CANDLE LANTERN, BECAUSE OF THE SPRING, AND LACK OF A WICK.THE SPRING WOULD FORCE THE CANDLE UP AS IT BURNED. YOU DECIDE. IT IS ALL BRASS. IT STANDS 16" TALL WITH CHIMNEY. HAS A PIVOTING MOUNT, SO WHEN THE SHIP PITCHED, IT WOULD STAY VERTICAL. NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU MOVE IT IT WILL STAY UPRIGHT. VERY UNIQUE LAMP/LANTERN.
