Silverdollar Productions OM-593 1941 General Electric Model 408 “New Maestro” Westminster Clock
The New Maestro was a beautifully designed clock using high-grade woods and veneers. The horizontal-grained face was accented by a large ornate trim at the base. The clock featured a silvered dial, black metal hands, brass bezel, glass crystal, and a full round of 4/4 Westminster chimes. The chimes play on 4 rods, and the strike counts the hours on a single rod.
For those of you not inclined to do a lot of reading, here is a quick summary. This clock is in fully restored condition, runs smoothly, quietly, keeps excellent time, and chimes accurately. Many of the missing parts were either replaced with original, or reproduced in our own shop. Overall the clock is in excellent condition perhaps showing only the smallest signs of either age or use, and is fully covered with our Iron-Clad, 120-Day Peace-of-Mind Warranties.
As you’ll see in the “Before” photographs, this clock was pretty much a train wreck on receipt. We put this clock through several of our restoration procedures to produce the finished clock you see pictured. Not a single aspect was ignored. Look at the details that went into this clock.
- The movement was fully overhauled. Several parts were replaced with original Telechron parts. All pivots and pinions were polished and cleaned. Every gear was lubricated using specially designed oils made for electric clocks. Afterwards, the movement was bench tested for several days to insure accurate time-keeping and chiming.
- We replaced the missing power-eye. However the shaft on this is shorter than it should be keeping the power-eye from working 100% The poor design of the wood case makes the power-eye very difficult to see regardless of its working condition. (A design flaw, basically. It is set too far back)
- We replaced the power cord and put on a new, reproduction non-polarized style plug end.
- The broken chime rods were replaced with new, tuned copper rods. In addition, the hammer tips were replaced with brass to give this clock a sharper, more defined metal-on-metal strike.
- We hand-cut a new rear door and applied a reproduction instruction sheet to the inside. The dog tag you see pictured on the back of the clock is also a plastic reproduction created in our shop.
- We had to remove the deteriorated original finish and bring the clock down to bare wood. The finish you see pictured is the result of old-fashioned hand-rubbing over the course of 5-days.
- Absolutely NO polyurethane, spray lacquer, wax, or any other type of artificial product ever touched this wood! Everything was done the old-fashioned way.
- While other sellers mark their clock with a big AS-IS and tell you Good Luck with it, we back our clock with our PEACE-OF-MIND WARRANTIES. Your clock is covered as follows:
120-days 100% parts/labor guarantee on original rotor and coil.
120-Days, 100% parts/labor guarantee on the movement and all it’s parts.
Of course, this clock is accompanied by our own Revere Booklet which not only steps you through set-up and problem solving, but also give you a history of the Revere and General Electric Clocks. Plus, you can count on personal email or phone support by professional people who know every aspect of this clock.
Silverdollar Productions is committed to bringing you professionally serviced and reconditioned clocks. Compared to identical or similar clocks you see for sale, this clock is in excellent physical and running condition. Compared to being brand new, this clock may show slight additional signs of either age or use consistent with age. We do not believe there is such a thing as a "MINT" vintage clock. The term “MINT” is a state of condition that varies from one individual to another. Therefore, we do not advertise or imply that any of our clocks are of "MINT" condition.
