OMAS JERUSALEM 3000, SILVER, L.E. VERY RARE

In 1996 OMAS produced 3000 Jerusalem L.E. fountain pens to mark the 3000th anniversary of Jerusalem's establishment
as a city. At 5.6" long closed, and weighing in at a supreme 68.5g without ink
(just under half of that weight, 31g, being the cap alone) this is an iconic pen.

On the resin barrel, cap and section, low and high bas reliefs are engraved into the sterling silver overlay.
"Omas Extra" is engraved, in script, at the bottom of the barrel next to the blind cap.

Jerusalem is a city accepting of constant change. With that in mind, OMAS chose three of its famous gates
as the symbols for this fountain pen: the circular Jaffa Gate, the Zion Gate and the Lion's Gate.
Intricately cast vines separate each design.
The patina on the sterling silver is deliberate. It is as a result of the oxidation process applied to the molded overlay.
The "Jerusalem 3000" logo is represented in the three languages of Israel: Arabic, English and Hebrew.
The Wailing Wall, one of the most recognized sites of Jerusalem, has been cast into the sterling silver.
A minuscule "925" chop-mark, just below the lip of the cap, authenticates the silver content of the overlay.
The top, and bottom, of the cap is encircled with engravings of the ancient star, rosettes and the cartouche.
Painstaking care was taken to render this pen an authentic expression of Jerusalem's history and culture.
So as not to hide the intricate details of the silver overlay, an open rhodium-plated clip,
with an engraved King Solomon's seal at the end, was chosen.
This Jerusalem L.E. comes with a limited edition 18k rhodium plated Medium nib.
The nib is also engraved with the "Jerusalem 3000" logo.
Resembling a modern wood sculpture, the pen is packaged in an olive wood box.
A gold plaque on the inside of the box completes the design.

OMAS Jerusalem 3000 with 18 K M nib LE 1993  Pistonfiller red vegetal resin 925 Sterling Silver Nibsize: 18 K medium tip
It has been 3000 years since the founding of the ancient and sacred city of Jerusalem, and OMAS is proud to celebrate such an important anniversary with the creation of a very special pen collection, the Jerusalem 3000.
When first asked to produce this collection, we set to work studying the history, culture, and architecture of Jerusalem. For three millennia, this incredible city has been holy ground to three of the world's great religions, and a source of inspiration for all people worldwide. It was not easy to select just a few images and symbols which would acknowledge the role of Jerusalem a historical reference point and touchstone for humanity, but it was our goal to capture the essence of Jerusalem with images that would reflect the philosophy and diversity of this noble city as it celebrates 3000 years. We were impressed by several land-marks, and by something less tangible, perceptible in the colors of the city at sunset or in the moonlight. Particular care has been given to the engraved images that traverse gracefully around the pen, land-marks chosen for their great significance to this historic city. Of all we saw and studied, what struck us was how Jerusalem has opened its gates to the world. Therefore, we focused on three gates as symbols for this celebration.
The circular Jaffa Gate also called the Gate of King David, welcomes people into the city and leads them towards the ancient port of Jaffa. The Zion Gate is named for the main street, which connects this entry to the city to the central marketplace. And finally there is the Lion's Gate, with its décor of floral designs and sentinel lines, which was the site of Jesus' entrance into the city and is where the Eastertide procession passes each year in celebration of this important event for Christianity. The ancient Wailing Wall, one of the most cherished sites in the entire world today, is also etched delicately onto of the pen. To emphasize these images, we separated each with a floral lace pattern that wraps elegantly around the pen. Completing the symbolism of the design are engravings of the ancient start, rosettes, and the cartouche where the official logo is represented in three different languages: English, Hebrew, and Arabic. To create these breathtaking silver fountain pens for the collection, we poured molten silver into specially created molds. Using the classic lost-wax process, we produced the sculptured precious metal sheaths through which a uniquely colored vegetal resin would ultimately show. But meantime, more intricate work still had to be performed. With painstaking attention and skill, each gold and silver pen was hand-chiseled to completely define the intricate details, creating an effect of both high and bas-relief. This sterling silver version was then oxidized for an antique effect. We developed a special polishing process of the pens that creates shadows within the design, while polishing at the same time. Each pen required no less than 108 hours of exacting work in the hands of five different artisans Each silver sheath adoms a rich "Pupura"- Crimson vegetal resin selected to resemble the clothing worn by the cavaliers of the past. In formulating this special color, we wanted it to be rich in tone and reflective of the elegance and nobility of this city. Like the city of Jerusalem, the Jerusallem Collection is a jewel to be admired and cherished. Despite the extensive use of precious metal, we insisted that even the jewel-like Jerusalem 3000 write superbly, while fitting the hand naturally and comfortable.

Only 3000 numbered pieces have been available for worldwide distribution. A special open clip was designed so as not to hide any of the intricate artistry of the pen beneath it and bears the engraving of King Solomon's seal at the end. The seal originally appeared on the Ring of Solomon, the magical and powerful object sent from heaven that gave the king his extraordinary ruling power. Each pen is piston-filled with an 18 kt nib engraved with the Jerusalem 3000 logo. The 925 sterling silver version has an 18kt gold nib and a phosphorous bronze clip, finished with rhodium plating to complement the silver sheath. Because of the unique place of Jerusalem in the history of the world for 3000 years, Omas created the Jerusalem Collection to be a lasting manifestation of the memory of this important anniversary.
