DANCING LIGHT STUDIO ORIGINAL OIL, WATERCOLOR AND PASTEL PAINTINGS by award-winning portrait and wildlife painter Nora Sallows. Her paintings hang in collections across the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and Great Britain. Combining a love of color and creative imagery, she paints realistic figures, portraits and wildlife subjects.

Nora is a member of the Portrait Society of America, The Black Swamp Art Guild, Toledo Artist's Club, and the Ohio Plein Air Society. She has exhibited at numerous regional and national shows and her pieces have won many awards, including three Best of Show honors.

This is an original oil painting! Not a print or a reproduction.

TITLE: Rush Hour in Mumbai

indian boy on donkey

I painted this from a photograph taken by Herve Blandin. Mr. Blandin travels extensively and takes many photographs. He kindly gave his permission to me to paint using his work as a reference if I promised to donate some of the profits to an organization that helps children stricken by poverty. I have chosen to donate 10% of the sale price of this painting to UNICEF.

This is an awesome painting with lots of rich brushwork and lovely complementary color. It is truly the best painting I have created up to this point. I am including a beautiful, silver  (but inexpensive) wood frame that compliments it very nicely.

SIZE: 36" x 24" x 3/4"

MEDIUM: Oil on gallery wrap canvas and framed in an ornate silver-colored wooden frame

When you purchase or win the auction for this painting you will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the artist.

Original art is a great investment but don't buy my work for that reason- buy it because you love it and you want your house to look classy. My house is so full of paintings it looks like a museum and while I'm not saying the look is for everyone it does work for me. :)

This is a quality oil painting painted with traditional methods. It is an original oil painting by Northwest Ohio artist, Nora Sallows, and is sure to increase in value as her paintings become more difficult to acquire. Check out Nora's eBay Page for a link to her web page and read her blog to learn more about the artist and her work. learn more about the artist.

To would be imitators: This painting is my original idea, composition and design and it is copyrighted. It is against eBay policy to pirate artist's work and I will report violators. There has been a recent increase in foreign copy painters stealing images and re-painting them (poorly) to sell as their own. Don't be fooled - ask for a Certificate of Authenticity- take note of whether the auction is written in legible English. Poor grammar is one of the first clues that you may be dealing with copyists. Of course another obvious clue is if they advertise "Rembrandt" and "Vermeer" paintings. Folks, these artists are dead, they have been for centuries and you would be buying a poor quality reproduction with exactly NO intrinsic value. The work is not original to the artist creating it and therefore not a good investment.

I use archival oils and quality canvas and panels- NOT cardboard painting panels. Your painting is designed to last a lifetime (or longer).

This is a GENUINE original oil painting, not a copy of another work or a poor reproduction of a master's painting. Every stroke is mine. Original art is a great investment that is never worth less than what you paid for it.

Every monitor displays colors differently. An oil painting is hard to photograph due to the reflective properties of the paint. I can assure you the actual painting is better than the image on screen, although I have done my best to represent color as accurately as possible. Purchase with confidence- I have 100% feedback and my paintings are a great value.

I can offer you original art at this rock-bottom price BECAUSE I am selling it myself. These are fresh paintings, not gallery rejects. Most are still wet when I photograph them. My gallery does not take a cut and I do not have to pay to have it framed or spend time framing it myself so the savings are passed directly to you. I retain  ownership to the copyright and am free to reproduce and sell as many prints of the image as I want.

Each piece is original in concept and design. You will not find umbrellas dancing like balloons in the rain or funky triangular brushstrokes that don't suggest form. You WILL find quality workmanship and a genuine artistry painted with artist quality paint. Don't buy my paintings because they make your couch look good- buy them because they touch a note in your soul.

Please keep in mind that if you use BUY IT NOW to purchase this painting there could be a delay of up to seven days before the painting is ready to ship, depending on how soon it is purchased following the listing. This is due to the inherent drying properties of oil paint. I will not mail a wet painting!

ALLA PRIMA- all at once- it means painting wet into wet. The goal is to finish while the painting is wet. Purchasing artwork on the internet is difficult under the best of circumstances but is virtually impossible if you can't see what you're buying. This is why I've made every attempt to show the detail in this painting with extreme close-ups. I took these pictures with a Canon 8.3 mega pixel camera outside in the shade so the color would be accurate. I can assure you the painting looks better in person. Serious bidders may request an image to be emailed directly to them.

I use a different kind of technique for my skin tones. It's a bit impressionistic in that I don't truly blend the colors. I layer a green over a pink or a yellow over a violet and the resulting tone is a bit more interesting because we're seeing it optically mix on the canvas. Many of my strokes are left rough and unblended but you truly don't see this unless you look very closely. This method doesn't seem to work against the realism of the piece; I think it may even magnify the illusion in some instances. After all, our bodies are made up of billions of tiny cells but we relate to them as a whole, not on a molecular level. Paintings shouldn't be studied by the brushstroke, but by the entire effect. But just in case you want to see those strokes I have included ultra close-ups! :)

Please don't become attached to the idea that the brushstrokes are "all-important". Nothing could be further from the truth. When you're painting a subject you use the best stroke to depict the design in the most clear manner possible. This does not mean applying heavy, similar triangles of swishy color to a piece just "for effect" or to demonstrate that you can use a lot of paint and still apply two or even three colors with your palette knife. In the end, if it doesn't enhance the design of your painting- who cares? Values are key: they make or break your picture- and if you can place those values properly you can use almost any color and the piece will "work". If you convert my paintings to gray scale you will see what I am talking about. Although the colors are varied and intense they always fit because I choose the right values. They are just as interesting in black and white. I want you to know what you are getting-- so I include close-ups of the painting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is payment due/expected?
A: Payment is due on the 3rd day after the auction ends. If payment is not received by the 7th day, a dispute will be filed with eBay. If you are mailing your payment please mail it out within two days after the auction ends to allow for transit time in the mail and keep me informed of when it was sent. It is also a good idea to pay for delivery confirmation (75 cents).

Q: When will my item ship?
A: I ship twice a week. Items that are paid for by Monday at 4:00 pm will be shipped Tuesday. Items paid for by Wednesday at 4:00 pm ship on Thursday. Very rarely a painting will sell before the paint has had enough time to dry thoroughly. This can happen if the paint is exceptionally thick or if I place a BUY IT NOW price on an auction and it sells immediately. In this instance I will communicate this to you, the buyer, and ship your painting as soon as it is safe to do so. Sometimes I ship on Saturdays but if your payment is received on Saturday or Sunday, your package will usually ship on Tuesday.

Q: Has my item been shipped?
A: If you have paid via Paypal, you will receive an automatic email from our Paypal notifying you of the shipment and providing you with a tracking number. Please note that USPS does not provide in-line tracking and the confirmation number is only valid for the purpose of confirming time and delivery. UPS will provide more detailed shipping information.

Q: When will I receive my package?
A: All packages are shipped Priority Mail or United Parcel Service Ground. USPS estimates delivery time as 2-3 days from shipment date and UPS guarantees six day delivery. Sometimes an item will take longer to ship. An oil painting that sells immediately after I list it may not be dry enough to ship and could require an additional 7-10 days time to cure. Please allow additional time for Giclee prints and canvases as they require an additional seven days to receive from the printer.

Q: Do you ship to APO/FPO, Guam or Puerto Rico Addresses?
A: As long as you have a CONFIRMED and Verified Paypal Address the item will be mailed to this address. I cannot accept any other form of payment for these shipments.

Q: I live near you / I will be traveling in your area, can I pick up my item in person?
A: Yes. Please email me your phone number and I will make arrangements for the pick-up.

Q: I do not have a confirmed Paypal address / I am unable to confirm my address, how can I pay you?
A: I accept Money Orders and Bank Cashiers Checks if you are unable to make a payment via Paypal. I can adjust any auction to reflect this if you contact me via the ASK THE SELLER A QUESTION form. Payment needs to be received with 7 days of the auction ending.

Q: I tried to bid on your item and I get an error message telling me I am not authorized.
A: I have used the eBay system to block bidders with more than two unpaid item strikes in the last 30 days or who have a history of negative feedback from other sellers. This may block a few honest bidders who genuinely want to make the purchase but have received negative feedback or have very old feedback problems, from bidding. If you send me a note through the eBay ASK THE SELLER A QUESTION form and explain your position I will add you to a list of pre-approved bidders.

If you have a question or concern that is not covered here please feel free to email me through the eBay CONTACT THE SELLER form. I answer all questions within 24 hours.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!
