I saved these cookie for a few weeks in a plastic zip lock bag, waiting for the perfect moment when I had the time and the inclination to paint them. You might be wondering "What is that thing behind the napkin?" It is a teapot, placed strategically in the corner to direct the eye back into the picture plane. The reflection of the napkin acts like a little arrow that points straight at the cookies. I've made these cookies nice and brown and chocolaty looking- in fact they make me hungry just looking at them so I need to sell them or my diet is history! I have included a detail shot to show you how loose the brushstrokes truly are. This is a very impressionistic piece, despite looking real from far away. Would you ever have thought of GREEN being in a chocolate ship cookie? No one will mistake it for a photograph!

Buy it and hang it in your kitchen where it will make you hungry every time you look at it. Or buy it and give it to your friend who just lost 30 pounds. Maybe she'll gain them back while you lose yours! (Kidddiiinng!)

 

I have tried to represent the picture's color accurately but your monitor may differ from mine slightly. Mine is calibrated to depict accurate color. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you're not completely thrilled with the workmanship and quality I will be happy to buy it back.

To would be imitators: This painting is my original idea, composition and design and it is copyrighted. It is against eBay policy to pirate artist's work and I will report violators. There has been a recent increase in foreign copy painters stealing images and re-painting them (poorly) to sell as their own. Don't be fooled - ask for a Certificate of Authenticity- take note of whether the auction is written in legible English. Poor grammar is one of the first clues that you may be dealing with copyists. Of course another obvious clue is if they advertise "Rembrandt" and "Vermeer" paintings. Folks, these artists are dead, they have been for centuries and you would be buying a poor quality reproduction with exactly NO intrinsic value. The work is not original to the artist creating it and therefore not a good investment. 

I use archival oils and quality canvas and panels- NOT cardboard painting panels. Your painting is designed to last a lifetime (or longer). This is a GENUINE original oil painting, not a copy of another work or a poor reproduction of a master's painting. Every stroke is mine. Original art is a great investment that is never worth less than what you paid for it. Monitors display colors differently. An oil painting is hard to photograph due to the reflective properties of the paint. I can assure you the actual painting looks better than the image on screen, although I have done my best to represent color as accurately as possible. Purchase with confidence- I have 100% feedback and my paintings are rising in value.

WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A GOOD PAINTING?

I 'm glad you asked! In my opinion a good painting is about something. EVEN IF THE PAINTING IS A PORTRAIT it should still tell the viewer something about what the artist thought as they interpreted their subject. Did the artist choose to emphasize the person's beauty, their clothing, or their personality? If you're looking at a landscape and you can't seem to look away it is because the artist has grouped the arrangement on their canvas in a way that is intriguing and pleasing. This is not an accident; a painting with a pleasing design and composition will hold our attention much longer than one that is painted "just because". Here is another clue: Good paintings can be converted to gray-scale in an image editor and still be found interesting! Why? Because the artist has paid close attention to the values and the composition. We're all familiar with the abundance of copy artists on the internet who will turn out Van Goghs and Rembrandts (well --copies anyway) for a small sum of money. What are we really purchasing if we do buy Van Gogh's Starry Night? It is not an original-- maybe it is a good copy, but we don't have a one of a kind item and nothing can compare to the original so at best we have an imitation that will never be worth more than we paid for it because the original hangs in the MoMA in NY.

ALLA PRIMA- all at once- it means painting wet into wet. The goal is to finish while the painting is wet. It's not always possible and sometimes you have to go back and rework a few areas but the painting is probably 90% complete after the first session. Purchasing artwork on the internet is difficult under the best of circumstances but is virtually impossible if you can't see what you're buying. This is why I've made every attempt to show the detail in this painting with extreme close-ups. I took these pictures with a Canon 8.3 mega pixel camera outside in the shade so the color would be accurate. I can assure you the painting looks better in person.
