I was passing the time at an art fair by painting the store across the street. A beautiful September day, cloudy and cool with a hint of fall in the air. Lots of lookers but not many buyers. The little girl asked me what I was doing. When I explained that I was painting the store across the street she asked me if she could paint too. I said no but then told her I would give her a dollar if she would sit on the curb and model for me for five minutes. She agreed so she's IN the picture. So is the only man who walked slow enough for me to paint him. (He did have a cane.) This small town is the kind that numbered in the tens of thousands across America at one time. They are slowly disappearing. The neat architecture is being replaced by strip malls. I can't think of another store I have seen anywhere that actually claims to carry "Dry Goods". This is the town where my husband grew up and whenever I visit I feel sad because I realize there are so few of these small towns left. Towns where everyone knows everyone else and you're not afraid to leave the doors unlocked at night.
This is a great sample of my impressionist realistic style of painting. The details that need to be present to tell the story are there. I leave everything else out. It wasn't an especially easy piece to paint-- trucks would stop at the single stoplight and block my field of vision every few minutes. People would wander into my stall and make chitchat. A few bought prints, but most of them held on to their money because times are tough in this industrialized state that has seen too many factory closings and layoffs. This painting represents a dying way of life. Although they were doing a pretty good business the day I created the work, next year Slocum's, in business for three generations, might be closed.
I
have tried to represent the picture's color
accurately but your monitor may differ from mine slightly. Mine is
calibrated to depict accurate color. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
If you're not completely thrilled with the workmanship and quality I
will be happy to buy it back.

When you purchase or win the
auction for this painting you will also receive a Certificate of
Authenticity, signed by the artist. Original art is a great
investment but don't buy my work for that reason- buy it because you
love it and you want your house to look classy. My house is so full of
paintings it looks like a museum and while I'm not saying the look is
for everyone it does work for me. :)
This is a quality oil
painting painted with traditional methods. It is an original oil
painting by Northwest Ohio artist, Nora Sallows, and is sure to
increase in value as her paintings become more difficult to acquire.
Check out Nora's eBay
Page for a link to her web page and read her blog
to learn more about the artist and her work. learn more about the

To would be imitators: This
painting is my original idea, composition and design and it is
copyrighted. It is against eBay policy to pirate artist's work and I
will report violators. There has been a recent increase in foreign copy
painters stealing images and re-painting them (poorly) to sell as their
own. Don't be fooled - ask for a Certificate of Authenticity- take note
of whether the auction is written in legible English. Poor grammar is
one of the first clues that you may be dealing with copyists. Of course
another obvious clue is if they advertise "Rembrandt" and "Vermeer"
paintings. Folks, these artists are dead, they have been for centuries
and you would be buying a poor quality reproduction with exactly NO
intrinsic value. The work is not original to the artist creating it and
therefore not a good investment.
I use archival oils and
quality canvas and panels- NOT cardboard painting panels. Your painting
is designed to last a lifetime (or longer). This is a GENUINE
original oil painting, not a copy of another work or a poor
reproduction of a master's painting. Every stroke is mine. Original art
is a great investment that is never worth less than what you paid for
it. Monitors display colors differently. An oil painting is hard to
photograph due to the reflective properties of the paint. I can assure
you the actual painting looks better than the image on screen, although
I have done my best to represent color as accurately as possible.
Purchase
with confidence- I have 100% feedback and my paintings are rising in
value.
Please keep in mind that if
you use BUY IT NOW to purchase this painting there could be a delay of
up to seven days before the painting is ready to ship, depending on how
soon it is purchased following the listing. This is due to the inherent
drying properties of oil paint. I will not mail a wet painting!
