Orlando Zennaro
Orlando Zennaro is a highly skilled artisan, a master glass-blower. He was born in Venice in 1932 and at an early age he began working at the Murano glassworks where, as an apprentice, he learned the age-old techniques of glass-blowing. He soon became a Glass Master at the Vistosi Furnace where he was subsequently appointed Director of Production. In 1970, prompted by his initiative and creative spirit, he opened a glassworks Studio.
In his workshop he attends to every aspect of his craft: he prepares the "partie", personally mixing different minerals in order to obtain the colours which after long research
and experimentation result in the "canes", the complex lattice-work and intensely coloured filigrees that he uses to produce his hollow blown glass, as well the tesserae that go to make the wonderful vases Zennaro himself calls "stained glass windows without the lead".
He has also produced glass work designed by such artists Piergiorgio Tempesti, Enrico Capuzzo Joe Colombo, and Angelo Mangiarotti, among others.
From 1995 to 1998 Zennaro taught the ancient techniques of filigree and glass-blowing at the Vannes-Le-Chatel School in France and in 1997 he conducted a course for the Glass Masters of Nuutajarvi, Finland.
Zennaro was invited to participate in both the first and second international new glass exhibits "Venezia Aperto Vetro" at the Correr Musuem in 1996 and at Palazzo Fortuny in 1998 - in Venice (Catalogue edited by Dan Klein and Attilia Dorigato, published by Arsenale and Catalogue edited by Rosa Barovier Mentasti, Dan Klein, Attilia Dorigato and published by Electa).
In 1999 he participated in the first exhibit of international glass "Vitraria" in S. Vito al Tagliamento (UD), the catalogue was published by Artegrafica Bolzanella.
In 2000 he was invited at the exhibit "Vetro Fragile" helt at Chiostro di S. Pietro in Murano. Orlando Zennaro in 2007, at the age of 77, Stopped Working in Glass.
