An atelier, probably established at Burges, specialized in the execution of small book of hours whose borders were decorated with architectural designs. This is the first publication in facsimle of the work of this atelier, the very same where the unknown master who made the famous Breviarium Grimani practiced their art. He also created the most beautiful of the illustrations in this vatican book of hours. Other miniatures and borders are based on models of Simon Marmion of Valenciennes whose contempories called him "the prince of illuminators".
At the beginning of this exquisitely decorated book of hours there is a calendar with original representations of the 12 signs of the Zodiac followed by four miniatures of the Evangelists and 15 minatures, each covering a page, illustrating the prayer, "Salve Sancta Facies", prayers of the Cross and of the Spirit, as well as miniatures to accompany Marial masses, other offices of the Madonna, Penitential psalms and the prayer for the dead.
The manuscript is preserved in full and supplied with a remarkable binding adorned with neo-Gothic silver trimmings that carry the coat of arms of Pius IX.
