Old Nippon art pottery vase lg brown Japan NR

You will receive this antique Nippon Japanese art pottery vase. Nippon generally refers to Japanese wares made during the period from 1891 to 1921, although the Nippon mark was also used to a limited extent on later wares accompanied by "Japan". Nippon, meaning Japan, identified the country of origin to comply with American importation restrictions. After 1921 "Japan" was the acceptable alternative. This vase in marked only "made in Nippon" on the bottom. It is a very deep rich chocolate color and is decorated with shields on all sides with Japanese lettering. Handles are ghoulish in nature as they are of a man with his mouth stretched downward showing his tongue. It has a nice ribbed neck with knot design. This vase measures approx. 12.5" tall and mouth is approx. 6.25" in diameter. Its width in the middle is approx. 8" across. It has one small chip on the outer lip and minor chiggers around top. For the age of this vase it is still in fine collectible condition. Please see pictures for more details.
